The dried mushroom commonly known as the "china bolete" (boletus granulatus, suillus granulatus, suillus luteus) is a much less expensive alternative to European & North American porcini mushrooms. In its fresh state, this mushroom is frequently referred to as the "Slippery Jack."  Most frequently used when dried, fragrant and flavorful dried china boletes have an intense and pleasant aroma with notes of caramel, vanilla and spice.

 

You'll be surprised and pleased at how well this affordably priced mushroom performs in any dish calling for dried porcini, cepes or boletes.
