Earthy Delights Porcini Orzo is made with semolina flour, the main ingredient in traditional pasta. Porcini Orzo is a short, rice-shaped pasta with the subtle, yet distinctive flavor of porcini mushrooms.

The toothy, firm texture and subtle flavors of this unique pasta suit it well to a multitude of applications. Orzo, like many other pastas, has become a flexible and versatile ingredient. Orzo maintains its shape when cooked and it has often been combined with rice to make pilafs and similar dishes.

Suggested Use:
Delicious in a Pilaf, Pasta E Fagioli or Minestrone, cold salads and soups - or just by itself with butter. Serve Orzo instead of rice with stir fry dishes. Toss cooked Orzo with chopped spinach and sliced almonds for a delightful side dish.

Enriched Semolina Flour, Water, Wheat Protein Isolate, Dried Boletus (Porcini) Mushroom Powder, Dried Egg White, Salt, Mushroom Base (Mushrooms, Salt, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, butter (cream, sugar, whey (from milk), autolyzed yeast extract, mushroom juice, Modified Food Starch, Onion Powder, Partially Hydrogenated soybean oil, Natural flavors), Porcini Paste (Mushroom Juice Concentrate, Mushroom Essence, Essential Oils). (Contains wheat, soybean, milk, and egg)

Basic Prep:
Add 1 cup of Orzo to 2 cups of rapidly boiling water or stock. Return to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes until tender, yet still al dente. Add uncooked Orzo to soups during last 10 minutes of cooking. One cup dry yields 3 cups cooked.

Orzo with Goat Cheese, Green Beans, and Tomato
Orzo, a rice-shaped pasta shines in this quick-to-the-table dish. In the summer, when we have such a wealth of fresh tomatoes and home grown green beans, this is a wonderful way of combining pasta and vegetables. The goat cheese adds that sharp note to the symphony of flavors. Try a flavored orzo to really keep them guessing.

Orzo with Shrimp, Tomato Sauce, and Feta Cheese
A rustic, comfort food that is easy to prepare and extremely versatile. The hot orzo softens the bits of Feta cheese to a creamy consistency, making the combination especially appealing when served warm. But it's good at room temperature too, for those hot summer days...and nights.

Try substituting goat cheese for Feta, or green olives for the Kalamatas, adjust the amount of chile peppers to suit your taste.

Lamb Shanks with Orzo
Orzo is a wonderful pasta that looks like large grains of rice. But it's actually made from semolina. It's delicately flavored and chewy, and absorbs any flavors it is cooked with, while retaining its firmness. Using flavored orzo adds a new dimension to the dish.

The lamb shank ends up tender and falling-off-the-bone delicious.

Pasta and Beans
Another excellent wintertime dish. When springtime flowers and nesting birds seem like nothing more than a distant memory, this is the sort of dish that makes winter seem worthwhile. Big bowls of this dish, heaping with meat, vegetables, and pasta, are even more delicious when the weather is cold and the wind blows. This makes about eight servings, depending on your appetite.
