Refreshing, intensely flavored, deep ruby red hibiscus tea is a favorite beverage south of the border where it is known as flor de Jamaica. In Mexico, it's typically served very sweet, but you can adjust the level of sweetness to your own taste.
Place hibiscus flowers in a large, heat-proof bowl or pitcher. Pour boiling water over the top and allow to steep for 20 minutes. Be careful! Intensely colored hibiscus tea will stain like grape juice or red wine.
Strain the hibiscus tea into a large pitcher or container. Add agave nectar or other sweetener to taste. Pack glasses with ice, fill with tea and serve!
Garnish with thinly slices of lime, blood orange or lemon.
Optional ingredients: Add cinnamon sticks, sliced fresh ginger or citrus juice for a flavorful variation.
