1st Runner Up - "Nothin but....Morels"
"I remember a few years back I bought morels from Earthy for the first
time, 2000 or 2001 I believe. In the past, having picked these myself
being from Indiana, I was now having them shipped to California,
worried sick if the airlines would treat them with care and how they
might be.
Opening the box with great anticipation I looked and thought
hmm...not exactly as I expected. Good but not great.
Next day I called Earthy, spoke to a nice person in customer service
explaining I just wanted them to know they were a little on the "dry"
side. I dunno...maybe I was being picky. After all I used to cook 'em
with fresh mud still on my shoes.
She insisted on replacing the entire 2 lbs. of blond morels and I
said "No, that's not necessary. I just called to comment, not
complain". Long story short she insisted and I said "Do you like
chocolate?" She replied yes so I agreed I would except a replacement
shipment if she accepted some chocolates from a friend who makes
these wonderfully delicious chocolate truffles in a shop in
Zionsville, IN.
A few days go by and I get a phone call in the office. "Will you
marry me?" said the sweet gal on the line. Ha! She got the fresh
chocolate truffles (by Ganache Chocolatier) and I got my fresh
blondies. Yumm. All is well in the world except sorry- I don't think
my wife would approve of a second marriage.
Been buying my blondies every year since and a happy boy except when
June comes and it's no more fresh morels until next year...
There you go. True story."
