Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Blue Agave nectar is a low-glycemic sweetener produced from organically grown and processed Blue Agave (Agave tequilana var. Weber) plants. The "Weber Azul" is a cactus-like plant that grows in the Jalisco region of Mexico; it's been used for more than 5000 years to sustain the region's inhabitants.

Organic Blue Agave offers natural sweetness without the blood sugar spike. This sweet, mild nectar is a perfect multi-purpose sweetener for beverages, fresh fruit and general table-top use. With a glycemic index of 39 or less, it is the preferred sweetener of many diabetics and those trying to control their blood sugar.

It is 25% sweeter than sugar, so less is needed. It is certified Organic and GMO-Free, and appropriate for vegan and plant-based diets. It is stable, non-crystallizing and quick dissolving. And it has a fantastic taste!

Japanese Eggplant Broiled with Miso
Recipe courtesy of: Fatfree Vegan Kitchen

This is a very simple dish - Japanese eggplants are broiled (or grilled, if you prefer), spread with a sweetened miso mixture, and then broiled again for a few seconds. The results are creamy, smoky eggplant with a sweet and salty sauce.

This recipe uses agave nectar, which is hardly a traditional Japanese ingredient. You can substitute sugar, but you may need a little more because agave is sweeter than sugar.

Hibiscus Tea
Refreshing, intensely flavored, deep ruby red hibiscus tea is a favorite beverage south of the border where it is known as flor de Jamaica. In Mexico, it's typically served very sweet, but you can adjust the level of sweetness to your own taste.
