Description 

 

This unique fruit preserve is a one of a kind. Also known as an “Autumn Olive”, this autumn berry is wild harvested from the Michigan countryside. This delightful preserve exhibits a flavorful balance of sweet and tart. Use as a spread, dessert topping or glaze on your favorite meat.

 

Though the tart, juicy fruit are small, mature shrubs bear them abundantly.  Birds are attracted by the ripe fruit and subsequently scatter the seeds. As a result, wild plants are found growing throughout the Eastern U.S. where shrubs are commonly found along roadsides and fencerows. 

 

Long revered as a powerful medicine in its native Asia, it is still utilized in the diets of Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese in tea, wine, jam and traditional medicine.

 

Autumn berries are high in nutritional value, containing vitamins A, C, and E, flavonoids and essential fatty acids. USDA researchers recently discovered that the fruit contain exceptionally high amounts of the powerful antioxidant lycopene, an important phytonutrient, thought to prevent or fight cancer of the prostate, mouth, throat and skin, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Autumn Berries contain 17 times the amount of lycopene found in an equivalent serving of tomatoes!
